Hi I’m Andrea, and I’m so glad you’re here!
My preferred style is loose and spontaneous, but with an eye for the essentials. This is how I give my creatures character and a certain sense of humor. My sketchbook is my happy place, and paints and brushes are my preferred tools.
If required, I transfer my analogue sketches into Procreate or Photoshop, where I further process them digitally. It is important to me that they remain true to their authentic and “handmade” appearance which is why I make the corresponding brushes, backgrounds and textures myself, thereby making second use of the “happy accidents” of my sketchbooks. I can hardly wait to bring your ideas and concepts to life!

Vision
When I sketch or paint, I usually relax my thinking mind and work from a place of childlike innocence and joy. Initially I allow myself to be led by intuition only, always paying close attention to the negative space, from which I then start defining shape and color until the image gradually emerges and feels complete to me.
Mission
Whatever I create, I never try to mimic reality. My intention instead is to capture the “spirit” of what caught my attention in the first place, and finding ways to express that by accumulating paint and lines, inspiring the viewer to interact by filling the gaps with their own interpretation of what they observe and feel.

Acrylic gouache and coloured pencils, a bit of Caran d’Ache neocolour II as well, just because I never know when a sketch is officially done 😉
.
Maybe i need your help — is it done?
.
Thanks for much for any comments, and — of course — for being here!
.
Have a nice day ☀️💓🌦️🌈✨

Ímir vom Kronshof, my lovely Icelandic horse and friend for years.
.
He got injured, had surgery in March 2025, and the prognosis for him to ever been ridden again was unknown. My heart was broken, but I remained hopeful.
.
I did everything. Massage, fascia rolling, exercises from the ground, walking him (many, many days of walking!!), ice packs, ice vibes, vitamins, supplements, injections, regular checkups at the clinic, different vets. Ultrasounds. MRT. Walking on the treadmill. Walking in circles.
.
This is an incomplete list, and it doesn’t include all the sleepless nights of worrying and praying, hoping and being hopeful. I can’t tell you how much I love this horse. He really is my soulmate, and not being able to ride him doesn’t change a thing.
.
Finally, a few weeks ago, after 18 months, I had another checkup, and together we decided that it’s safe to at least give it a try. I would start riding him, first only in walk, only on a straight line, only on even, hard ground.
.
6 weeks later I’m cautiously happy to say that the leg looks still good. We started a bit of trot, 2x 100m on a straight line. We’re flying!! It feels so good. Even though I got to say, I’m not able to relax fully — a slight tilt to the left, to the right, a slightly irregular footstep …. Is he lame again?
.
If you’re still reading this, you’re probably thinking, why is she telling us all this? The answer is, I really don’t know. All I do know is that this is what this picture is about. And maybe it is why the legs of the horse are somehow too fragile, and why she is half on and half off the horse, carefully feeling its front and back at the same time. And probably that’s why he is half walking and half standing, and the colours …. The colours are so much Ímir 🐴❤️
.
This is how my paintings all have a long story behind them. This one is done in my Din A3 sketchbook with acrylic gouache and a bit of coloured pencil on top.
.
I’d love to hear what you thing of this. Thank you so much for being here 🩷🩷🩷

Boats in the harbour of Ålbæk 🇩🇰
.
This one, “Oke”, was decorated with all these cute, red flags a few days ago! I snapped a picture, and today I sketched him at home in my studio.
.
These are two preliminary sketches which I might use for a painting! Which one do you like more, the first one (slide 1/2) or the second one (slide 3/4)?

People looking at art through their phones 😉
Not much more to say about these, but I enjoyed drawing and inventing patterns and colours on the clothes they’re (not) wearing 😁
.
And, btw, they “thing” sticking out is a belt!! ☺️ Accidents happen 🙃

Right now I’m not posting that much because I’m working on a project for a client I can’t share much about yet. What I can tell you though is that it involves elements of textile! And hands!!
.
The reality is, after the initial sketching phase, which I enjoyed so much, it’s now sitting in front of a computer screen quite a lot. So today I thought I show you some of the early sketches I made!
.
For the rest of the project, as I said, I need a bit more time. I will show you the final result hopefully soon!
.
Till then, stick with me please, and enjoy the rough sketches! ;))
To me, they are often the best!

Still inspired by what I recently learnt from @art_and_giggles so much that I took her call to draw these “archetypes” of people.
.
I am only showing a small selection of all the failed attempts I did in various sketchbooks, and I keep being amazed how much there is to learn from staring long and hard.
.
In the end I kind of surprised myself with the revelation that tackling the white paper with black ink (no pencil sketch first!!) produced the most humour in my characters.
.
I even caught myself smiling inwardly as I looked into their faces 😊
.
You?

Please share your immediate thoughts with me in the comments. Thank you so, so much!

Isn’t he adorable?
.
The concentration. The determination. The focus. The grace.
.
I learnt observing (!!!!) before drawing, and then redrawing again and again in the workshop “Draw like nobody sees you” by the talented @alona.markina from @art_and_giggles
.
For the first time (I’m not exaggerating) I’m able to stick with an idea, the man flying like a bird” for a long time.
.
Usually, once I finished a drawing, I get bored very quickly and start something else. I was even convinced, the first drawing is always the best, but …. Somehow with this new approach I feel I’m going deeper and deeper the longer I stick with this guy.
.
For those, who have know me a little longer, I’d love to hear what you think? Please share your immediate thoughts in the comments with me! It would help me a lot!!
.
Thank you 🌻🌻🌻

How much fun!!
.
Thank you @alona.markina and @art_and_giggles for this fantastic one-hour session on how to observe and then draw.
.
This is what I took home from it:
Draw recklessly.
.
Analyse your drawing, if you like, afterwards, but never whilst in the process of creating. Mistakes are part of the process. Ignore them as best as you can. They might even add to the fun!
.
And yes, having fun! People will feel whether you had fun, and also whether making a drawing was a pain! Didn’t we all work our way through painful projects, until they were overworked, overly perfect, or simply sad and lifeless?
.
Anyway, if you are looking for inspiration, please head over to Alona — she has a few more dates to offer!
.
Meet me there 😃❤️🖌️🎨

At the moment I’m spending a lot of time in InDesign, working on a real client project (yay!!).
.
My neck is aching, my shoulders get a bit sad, and after a few days I start missing paper, paints and pens!
.
It’s difficult then to close the laptop and create something amazing from scratch. Also I only have a limited amount of time, so it’s hardly worth pulling out the paints.
.
What I always have is a box with paper scraps — artwork I didn’t like, or pretty wrapping papers or postcards …
.
For these sketchbook spreads I limited myself to 3 different types — one watercolour page I didn’t like, one paper with ink marks, and a printed page of book covers I had designed years ago.
.
I cut all these into random stripes, and started arranging them in almost random order. For me the trick is to start from the left bottom corner and work my way up to the right top.
.
I leave enough white space, because this is where the fun begins: I start filling “gaps” with an ink pen until I start seeing something. A wing, a leaf, an eye ….
.
I enjoy this process through and through, and as my fingers get sticky from the glue, the tension melts away from my thinking brain.
.
The nice think about it is that I always end up with something better than it was before 🙂
.
Never abandon your “failed” artwork! Follow this process, and you start creating something beautiful from it.
.
I hope you enjoy 🌻🌻🌻
